Here we are again a year later with Captin Zach. We came into this trip after an extremely successful trip last October and had to go again! This trip started out different way different...everything that worked great last year did not this year and became worried at first. Wrong again Captin Zach quickly came to the rescue and poof we were on the fish and fishing way different from the year before. Fathers Day Stingray

Redfish

Red drum are the perfect inshore game fish - they'll eat almost anything and fight like freight trains in shallow water. Around Savannah, most reds run 20-35 inches, feeding in 1-4 feet of water over oyster bars, grass flats, and creek mouths. That distinctive black spot near their tail helps them fool predators, but it makes them easy for us to identify. Fall and spring offer the best action when they school up, but summer sight-fishing in skinny water is hard to beat. Guests love reds because they're visual feeders you can often see cruising the flats, and when hooked, they make blistering runs that'll smoke your drag. They're also great eating - firm, white meat with a mild flavor. Pro tip: in super shallow water, cast well ahead of cruising fish and let your bait sit still. Movement spooks them in inches of water, but a perfectly placed shrimp or crab will get crushed.

Sea Trout

Speckled trout are the bread and butter of our inshore fishing, schooling over grass flats and around oyster bars throughout Savannah's estuaries. Most run 14-24 inches and fight above their weight class with head-shaking jumps that'll test your drag. They love shallow water from 2-6 feet deep, especially around structure changes where current meets grass beds. Spring and fall fishing is prime time, but summer nights under lights can be magic. Guests enjoy trout fishing because they're aggressive feeders that hit both live bait and artificials - perfect for kids and beginners. The delicate white meat makes great table fare, just don't overcook it. Best tip I can share: work your lure slow and low around grass edges at dawn and dusk. These fish have soft mouths, so keep steady pressure but don't horse them - let your drag do the work and you'll land more fish.

Sheepshead

Those human-like teeth aren't just for show - sheepshead use them to crunch barnacles and crabs off dock pilings and jetties. These gray-striped "convict fish" typically run 1-8 pounds around Savannah's structures, though 20-pounders show up near bridges and rock piles. They're year-round residents but fish best in cooler months when they school up for spawning from February through April. Fall months, especially September through November, give you the best shot when they're feeding heavy before moving offshore. What makes flounder trips fun is watching that "doormat" explode off the bottom when hooked - they fight sideways and make strong runs. Plus, they're some of the best eating fish in these waters with sweet, white meat. Pro tip: when you feel that subtle tap-tap, count to three before setting the hook. They like to grab bait and swim off to swallow it, so patience pays off with these sneaky bottom-dwellers.
